Kia Infotainment Hidden Tips & Tricks: Get More From Your Kia’s Technology

October 5th, 2026 by

Today’s Kia vehicles offer an impressive amount of technology, but many owners only use a small portion of what’s available.

You probably already know how to change the radio station, connect your phone and pull up navigation. But depending on your Kia model, trim and model year, your infotainment system may offer shortcuts, customizable settings and connected features that aren’t immediately obvious.

Kia even publishes model-specific Vehicle Feature Tips guides for many of its current vehicles, including the Telluride, Sorento, Sportage, Seltos, Carnival and EV9.

If you’ve recently purchased a Kia—or you’ve owned yours for a while and never really explored the menus—here are some features worth checking out.

Customize the Home Screen Around What You Actually Use

One of the first things we recommend is spending a few minutes exploring your infotainment settings while your Kia is parked.

Depending on your system, you may be able to customize certain menus, display preferences and frequently used functions.

Think about what you actually use every day. For one driver, navigation may be the priority. Someone else may spend most of the time using Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™ or audio controls.

A little customization can make the system feel much simpler because the functions you use most are easier to reach.

Learn Your Steering-Wheel Shortcut Buttons

Not every infotainment command requires touching the screen.

Your Kia’s steering wheel may include controls for audio volume, changing tracks or stations, answering phone calls, voice commands and navigating information displayed in the instrument cluster.

Depending on the model, certain steering-wheel buttons may also have customizable functionality.

Learning these controls isn’t just convenient. It can reduce how often you need to reach toward the center screen while driving.

Take Advantage of Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Wireless smartphone connectivity is becoming increasingly common throughout Kia’s lineup.

For example, the 2026 K4 includes standard Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, while current Telluride technology also offers wireless smartphone integration.

Once a compatible phone is paired, you can access supported maps, music, podcasts, messages and other apps through the vehicle’s touchscreen without plugging your phone in every time you drive.

One tip: if several people drive your Kia, pair each driver’s phone and learn how the system handles multiple devices. That can save some frustration when both phones enter the vehicle at the same time.

Use Voice Control More Often

Many drivers forget that they can accomplish common tasks without touching the display.

Depending on your Kia’s equipment and connected services, voice commands may help with navigation, phone calls, entertainment and other supported functions.

When using compatible Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you can also access supported smartphone voice assistants.

Try experimenting with voice control while you’re parked. Once you know what commands work well, you’re more likely to use them when driving.

Explore Your Camera Views

If your Kia has an available Surround View Monitor, don’t wait until you’re squeezing into a difficult parking spot to figure out how it works.

Available systems use multiple exterior cameras to help provide a view around the vehicle during certain low-speed situations. Kia also offers available Blind-Spot View Monitor technology on certain models, which can display a live camera image of the vehicle’s rear blind spot in the instrument cluster when the turn signal is activated.

Spend a few minutes in an empty parking lot learning what the different camera views show.

These systems are driver aids and don’t replace checking mirrors, looking around the vehicle or safe driving, but understanding them can make them considerably more useful.

Look for Driver-Assistance Settings

Many Kia driver-assistance technologies have settings that can be adjusted based on the vehicle and equipment.

Rather than assuming every warning or assistance feature works only one way, explore the Driver Assistance section of your vehicle settings while parked.

You may discover options relating to warning methods, parking assistance or other supported systems.

One caution: don’t simply turn off a feature because you don’t immediately understand why it’s alerting you. Learn what the system does first. Your owner’s manual and Kia’s Vehicle Feature Tips are good places to start.

Don’t Ignore the Instrument Cluster

Your infotainment screen gets most of the attention, but the digital display directly in front of the driver can be just as useful.

Depending on your Kia, you may be able to display fuel economy, trip information, driver-assistance information, navigation guidance, tire-pressure information and other vehicle data.

Some Kia models take this even further with available panoramic digital displays. The current Telluride, for example, offers an available digital cockpit with nearly 30 inches of combined digital display area.

Learning how to move between these screens can help you find useful information without searching through the center touchscreen.

Check Whether Your Kia Supports Over-the-Air Updates

Some newer Kia systems support over-the-air system updates.

On properly equipped vehicles, this allows certain software updates to be delivered without requiring the owner to manually install them. The 2027 Telluride, for example, lists over-the-air system updates among its available connectivity features.

Capabilities vary by vehicle, software and Kia Connect services, so check the information for your specific Kia rather than assuming every model supports the same functions.

Spend 15 Minutes Exploring Your Kia

This might be the most useful infotainment tip of all.

Sit in your Kia while it’s parked, start at the Setup menu and spend 15 minutes opening the different sections.

You’ll probably find something you didn’t know your vehicle could do.

And if you find a setting you don’t understand, don’t randomly change it. Check the owner’s manual, Kia’s Vehicle Feature Tips or ask us.
